Our wines are produced from grapes grown on our own vineyards in New Zealand’s most famous wine-producing region, Marlborough. World-famous for its Sauvignon Blanc that tastes and smells like no other, Marlborough has gone on to also be renowned for many other varieties of the same outstanding quality. Other classic varietals such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive here.
Situated in the upper reaches of the Awatere Valley, some 200 m above sea level, this vineyard has Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku as a backdrop, and the Awatere River flows along its western boundary. While the stunning beauty makes a visit to our Awatere Valley site a breathtaking experience, it’s the stony river terraces that produce intensely flavoured fruit that led us to plant here
With a cooler and drier climate than other parts of Marlborough, the growing season is longer and ripening slower. Careful management and monitoring over the years have allowed our winemaking team to select parcels of fruit to harvest at the optimum time.
Our winemaking philosophy is to create styles of wine that best reflect this region and the unique characteristics of our vineyard. As a Mâori organisation, we have a strong spiritual connection with the land and a responsibility to pass it on in good health to future generations. Our vineyards are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.
We have two main vineyards in Marlborough, the Awatere Valley vineyard, and the Waihopai Valley vineyard. Our Marlborough Group Vineyard Manger is Mondo Kopua (left), and our Marlborough Viticulture Manager is Murray Trower.
