Our top tips for staying connected during lockdown

E noho e, kia raungāwari. Sit down and bide your time.

In times like this, a natural reaction is to turn to whānau and friends with affection – a hug and a kiss, shared meals and drinks. Anything to connect. So while we cannot physically join together right now, there are new and innovative ways to keep in touch. Here we share our top tips for staying connecting during enforced downtime.

Virtual Happy Hour
Alice Hazlett, Marketing & Social Assistant
My solution is to have a virtual ‘Happy Hour’ over video conferencing. Set-up a recurring meeting request for drinks with your nearest and dearest at a time when you might normally meet at a bar or at each other’s homes. Dress up, light candles, pour a glass of your favourite wine, provide (yourself) nibbles. It’s amazing what a difference it can make to a day of isolation.

Create at-home dining experiences
Abbie Tebbut, Marketing Coordinator
There’s something special about sitting down to a beautifully cooked meal and a glass of red, especially when it has been prepared by someone else. In our house, we’re taking turns to recreate at-home dining experiences. This morning I was treated to French Toast with a ‘long-black’ – made from our plunger. Tonight, I’m preparing fresh herby spring rolls and poached chicken paired with the Tohu Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc, my favourite Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Topped off with a fancy white table cloth, candles and jazz music, I think my bubble of people will be impressed.

Exercise together
Gemma Hogan, Brand Manager
I sorely miss practicing yoga as a community. And as a creature of habit, it’s important to keep my exercise routine. So every morning at 7am I tune in to a daily live stream yoga class by my dear friend who is a Yoga Teacher. It’s a great way to feel connected to others, and to myself. There are lots of great online platforms that offer a variety of workouts, including yoga, such as Furthermore and Sweaty Betty.

Wine tasting, home edition
Jarrod Robinson, New Product Development Manager
On the weekends, my hubby and I often love to escape to New Zealand’s wine regions to sample the latest and greatest tipples. So, while we can’t get out right now, we’re bringing the wine regions to us to create an at-home wine-tasting experience. The Tohu Manaaki mixed case is the perfect way to sample wines from New Zealand’s premier grape-growing regions and includes a selection of 5 different varietals – a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, a Hawke’s Bay Merlot, a Marlborough Chardonnay, an Awatere Pinot Gris and a Nelson Rose. I’ll let you in on an insider tip, for a limited time, you can get 25% off the Tohu Manaaki mixed case by using ‘TAKECARE25’ at checkout.

Cook together, from afar
Meg Malcolm, Events Manager
We seek culinary inspiration from each other, and set up video calls from our kitchen benches! A virtual communal bottle of wine is opened, and we catch up on each others days while cooking up a storm.

We want to reassure you that right now, we are still here and open for business online. As an essential business, we can offer you contact-free delivery from our Marlborough factory to your whānau at home during the four week lock-down period.
